Handicrafts Resources

The following lists various resources for handicrafts. Some of the books can be found at your local public library. The value of YouTube for learning new handicrafts should also not be underestimated. When in doubt, search for how-to videos. We hope these resources serve as a starting point in your handicraft adventures.

The groupings by age do not denote the difficulty level of the handicraft. They are more guides as to what age would be best suited for each resource, regardless of ability in that handicraft.

These are an assortment of the most common types of handicrafts. More categories will be added in the near future. Updates will be announced in the Facebook group.

Fun and Friendly Calligraphy for Kids by Virginia Lucas Hart

Calligraphy Multi-Color Set – very thin specialized markers for calligraphy

Learn Calligraphy by Margaret Shepard – start here! Explains how to do calligraphy and a brief history of the art.

The Calligrapher’s Bible: 100 Complete Alphabets and How to Draw Them by David Harris – a more intermediate guide. Has many calligraphy alphabets, including more modern styles.

Calligraphy and Illumination: A History and Practical Guide by Patricia Lovett – goes deeply into the history of calligraphy in Britain. Includes some information for the beginner, but dives more into advanced calligraphy.
